Kristen is a licensed Interior Designer based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and specializes in high style, low budget design! When she’s not designing, she’s a busy mother of three and a devoted wife! Read below to hear what inspires her, what her best and worst client experiences are, and favorite paint colors!

  • What drew you to become an Interior Designer?

My mom.  Ever since I can remember she would take me to model homes, and the Utah Parade of Homes Shows. She would buy Design Magazines and House Plan Magazines and always had on HGTV at our home.  She kept a beautiful home, even though we didn’t have a lot of money she taught me that you could keep a beautiful home, even if on a budget.  This is why I love to do budget friendly design.

  • When designing a cost-effective space, what are some key things to keep in mind?

I love mixing high cost/ low cost pieces.  Just keep in mind that the items to splurge on are the ones that don’t get used very often.  If you are using it more, like a sofa or a dresser, I’d recommend putting more of the budget on those items.  If its a credenza for decoration mainly, that is what I’d recommend finding a lower end piece to budget.  And I always shop at discount home decor stores for accessories.  I can style a whole room accessories wise for under $500 with the use of those awesome stores.

  • Share with us your best experience as an Interior Designer. And your worst?

I love it when the husbands, who were apprehensive to hire the use of a designer, are the ones to post their finished spaces on their own social media channels because they love the finished space so much.

Worst experience? Clients who just can’t make up their mind enough to trust me are always difficult. I’ve never had a client who doesn’t love the finished result… so that’s hard.

  • What are easy ways to seasonally change up decor throughout your home?

I actually usually add organic things like flowers or sticks from my yard in vases I already have displayed… I’m not huge into decorating for holidays aside from Christmas because I don’t like to many knickknacks around.
